Tiroteo e incendio en Montana. 8 muertos.

Un hombre ha acabado con la vida de ocho miembros de una familia, incluyendo cuatro niños, en un tiroteo que ha causado una enorme conmoción en la pequeña localidad de Billings, en Montana. 

A man has killed eight members of a family, including four children, in a shooting that has sent shockwaves through the small Montana community of Billings. The suspect was found suffering from a gunshot wound outside the home after apparently shooting himself. 

El sospechoso fue hallado herido de bala fuera de la vivienda tras haberse disparado. Fue trasladado a un hospital, donde falleció poco después.

Kent O'Donnell, el sheriff local del condado de Yellowstone, confirmó al Consorcio Internacional de Periodistas JMH que las víctimas han sido identificadas.

¿Quiénes son las víctimas?

Dan Smith, de 72 años, y su mujer, Barb Smith, de 69 años, padres de Megan Ghekiere, que también perdió la vida junto a sus hijos, Chloe Ireland, de 7 años, y Owen Ireland, de 13. Landon Ghekiere, de 15 años, y Charlote Ghekiere, de 12, también fallecieron en el tiroteo.

Un incendio posterior

Matt Hoppel, el jefe de bomberos local, explicó que no pudieron intervenir hasta que la policía aseguró la zona.

Who are the victims?

Dan Smith, 72, and his wife, Barb Smith, 69, were the parents of Megan Ghekiere, who was also killed along with her children, Chloe Ireland, 7, and Owen Ireland, 13. Landon Ghekiere, 15, and Charlote Ghekiere, 12, also died in the shooting.

Brad Ireland, whose former wife, Meghan Ghekiere, and two of the children are among the dead, identified the shooter as Alan Smith, 44.

The victims belonged to four different generations of the same family, ranging from a 92-year-old grandmother to her 7-year-old great-granddaughter, according to Mercer.

A subsequent fire

Matt Hoppel, the local fire chief, said firefighters were unable to intervene until police had secured the area.

“The delay caused by limited access posed significant challenges, the fire conditions continued to worsen and the residents ultimately... were consumed by the fire,” a distraught Hoppel told JMH.

The incident apparently began with a family dispute. When police arrived at the home, they heard gunshots coming from the rear of the house shortly before the entire structure caught fire, in what appears to have been a premeditated attack by the shooter.
